Customs duties on Indian products

Morocco and India have no free trade agreement: goods of Indian origin pay standard customs duties, plus import VAT. The amount depends on the tariff classification of each product. We give you an estimate of duties and taxes before shipment, so you know the real cost of your purchase. See also our page customs clearance in Casablanca.

Required documents

  • Commercial invoice and packing list
  • Bill of lading (B/L): original, telex release or seaway bill
  • Certificate of origin
  • Domiciled import commitment (via PortNet)
  • Depending on the goods: health or phytosanitary certificates, safety data sheets, certificates of conformity

Our tips for importing from India without delays

  • Check the consignee on the B/L : the name, address and ID number (ICE) of the Moroccan importer must be correct. An error blocks the release of documents on arrival.
  • Choose the right type of B/L : original, telex release or seaway bill. The release method determines when you can collect your goods.
  • Agree payment terms before departure : a change after the vessel sails leads to extra charges and delays.
  • Plan for longer transit times : with ships sailing around Africa, order earlier to avoid stock shortages.
  • Prepare the customs file during transit : import commitment and documents ready before arrival, to avoid storage and demurrage charges.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a container take from India to Morocco?

Currently allow 35 to 45 days port to port from Nhava Sheva or Mundra, a little longer from the south and east coast. With ships sailing around Africa because of the situation in the Red Sea, transit times are longer than before. Add a few days for customs clearance and delivery.

Do Indian goods pay customs duties in Morocco?

Yes. There is no free trade agreement between Morocco and India: standard customs duties apply, as well as import VAT. We give you an estimate before shipment.

Can you collect goods inland in India?

Yes. Our agents collect the goods from your supplier or from an inland depot (ICD) such as Delhi, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad or Morbi, and transport them to the port of loading.

What is a telex release or a seaway bill?

These are bills of lading with no paper original to present: the goods can be released at destination without waiting for originals to arrive by courier. They speed up container release, provided the supplier has been paid as agreed.

Full container or groupage from India?

Groupage (LCL) suits small volumes and first orders. From around fifteen cubic metres, a full container usually becomes cheaper and simpler to clear through customs.

Do you deliver anywhere in Morocco?

Yes. After customs clearance, we deliver to your address anywhere in Morocco.
